WHAT IS HORROR:
Horror the spooky scary genre, that has everyone screaming and holding on to their blankets, as this is my favorite genre i decided to research the genre of HORROR.

The genre of Horror brings its viewers a sense of shock and terror. Many people all over the world feel this sense of terror and continue watching horror movies as it's a very popular genre. Moreover with the release of a new horror movie such as recently The Invisible Man and classics as Insidious the fuz of these movies get around and before we know it even people that didn't like horror movies are now finding themselves watching them. When the time of halloween comes around these movies are watched even more so as many enjoy the trill, and like to show their emotional capability towards these scary movies. The creation of a horror movie is not as expensive as other genres making the creation of these movies more profitable to the creators.
Content of Horror:
Horror films are meant to be unsettling as the purpose behind it is to scare the audience. They use different tactics like dramatic music, foreshadowing, scary settings, suspense to build up the story and make sure the audience is getting this sense of fear.
For example ,in the movie The Purge as soon as the movie starts it is foreshadowed that something will happen to the family in the beginning of the movie as all crimes are allowed for a day. They use foreshadowing for the audience to make an idea of what will come next as granting all crimes to be legal foreshadows and builds suspense for the rest of the movie.

The setting of a movie and sound effects of a film also plays a huge role in horror films. As seen in different horror movies such as the
Conjuring and
Poltergeist they use scary and creepy settings to create fear and shock on the audience, as we see the creepy houses used in the movies and the different settings seen such as the church and the backyard settings used. Moreover, horror films use dramatic music and sound effects in order to empathize when something is going to happen. In these movies in different times we hear the dramatic music getting louder when a substantial event is about to happen.

Fear and Suspense, make horror movies what they are as they are the biggest factors in this genre. Suspense helps build up the fear in the viewer. Making the audience fear what the next scene will be, fear is what makes horror movies so great as many horror movies have the same story lines and can be expected on what will be coming next, but by adding suspense and fear the felling that it evokes on the audience still causes fear making the movie a horror movie. Some horror movies finish with a happy ending that ultimately calms the audience down as it is now over, other movies such as
Insidious don't end that way they keep the terror going by finishing the movie with a scary scene.

As seen in the movie
Insidious when we believe the bad spirt had left the little boys body and everything will be back to normal to seeing that another spirt had transferred to the father's body ending the movie like this evokes more fear in the audience as it keeps us thinking about it ultimately creating terror.
Production Techniques:
Once you become aware of the different techniques horror film producers use to make the audience jump from their seats, scream, and hold on tight you will become more prepared for the next time you watch a horror film.
All things considered, a truly knowledgeable horror film producer won't really turn to the normal, worn out reliable loathsomeness scenes that have made us unnerved previously, yet will rather utilize either a mixing of these old sorts, or use new, all the more captivating viewpoints for genuinely astonishing realistic landscape not at all like anything ever observed previously. That is the general purpose of the awfulness class in any case, to push the limits of fear as reasonably as should be possible. Be that as it may, a decent loathsomeness doesn't just alarm the watcher, they go far more profound in drawing out both physical and mental associations to send the watcher into a twist opening of significant distress.
Some production techniques used are, sound effects that make the scene that is going on scarier and more suspenseful. Moreover by a song growing higher and higher in volume it causes the scene to get spookier, they also use the technique of jump scare we've all seen this in a horror movie for example, at the point when a dog jumps out of the blue and barks drastically to what we don't seem to see yet.
 |
For Example, we see these jump scares and sound effects in the films of Friday the 13th.

Marketing: Horror movies claw into our minds to exploit our worst fears. Ghosts, zombies, monsters, clowns, girls with long black hair, gremlins… the good ones are hard to shake, no matter how hard we try.
Horror films are low budget films that can bring a lot of profit, the audience that is trying to catch is people ages 14-35 year olds. As people of this age enjoy the thrill and the horror of the film. This films use aspects such as blood, murder, scary looking characters to attract these teenagers and young adults.
